Packing For Your Cruise: What Should You Bring?

By Harold Spencer

Packing for a vacation can be very stressful. It is very common to pack things you don't need, and forget those you do need.

This can be even more stressful when you are preparing your bags for a cruise vacation. If this is the first time you go on a cruise, you probably have no idea of what will be provided, so chances are that you will pack unnecessary things. For example, could you think that in most cabins a hair dryer would normally be provided? After all, you know that many hotels don't provide that. But hair dryers are a standard feature on cruise lines.

Therefore decide first with great care which items can be categorized as essential ones, which ones will be helpful if you take those with you, and just for the joy of packing which items you will choose.

Some items are indispensable, especially if you cruise abroad.

Your passport and/or state identification card or driving license since you need those in most cruise lines that go beyond the country.

Automobile insurance proof, if renting a car while you halt on land is in your mind.

As you will cross several time zones a watch with more than one time zone is the need.

Clothing must be customized to the type of activities you plan to attend. If you plan to attend formal dining and dancing events, you will need to bring formal attire. However, if you only plan to lounge by the pool and on the deck, casual clothes are all you will need. Pack your clothes according to the activities you plan to include.

You should also consider some items that are not fundamental but you would still enjoy having with you.

In this category camera or digital camera with extra memory cards has a very special position.

And, do you think you could use your camcorder?

Your reading glasses and of course a book you would like to read.

And, it wouldn't hurt to bring along a first-aid kit.

It might also be good to bring a small flashlight.

You definitely need to pack items in the "essential" category. And certainly, make sure you keep in mind that some items you normally use in your normal life might not be necessary while you are on vacation. Many items you consider essential are already included among the amenities offered by the cruise line.
