Experience Katherine Gorge

A long way from the urban town scapes of Australia, there is the culture of the Northern Territory. Some of the most spectacular, natural landscapes in the world can be discovered here and a remarkable one is the Katherine Gorge, or Nitmiluk as it is otherwise known. It is located roughly thirty kilometres north east of the tiny city of Katherine.

Katherine Gorge sits in the 292,000 Nitmiluk National Park and is made from has a grand total of thirteen gorges, every one leading to the next. They were carved from sandstone by the Katherine Stream approximately one bn. years ago, so this is an ancient formation to say the least and not for the faint of heart. It is a refuge for nature lovers, with its rugged landscapes, dramatic waterfalls and lush gorges providing a sufficiency of flora and fauna, including the peculiar freshwater crocodile. These are typically besieged by rangers nevertheless , you can not show too much care.
